Atkins Grapefruit Diet
admin | July 4, 2009The Atkins Grapefruit diet seeks to cash in on the popularity of the fad grapefruit diet and the less fad but still fad Atkins diet, although it has nothing to do with the Atkins estate or company. Don’t look now, but it may not be what people hope.
First of all it’s pretty difficult to find information on the Atkins grapefruit diet plan. One common element of cons is that clear information is generally hard to find. The Atkins grapefruit diet is purposely deceptive in its origin to convince people that it is a legitimate combination of two popular fad diets.
Is the Atkins Grapefruit Diet part of the Atkins Diet or endorsed by the estate of the late Dr. Atkins? The answer is no, not only is there no mention of the Atkins Grapefruit Diet on the Atkins web site, but there is no fruit of any kind mentioned in the list of allowed foods in the Atkins diet Induction phase.
Here is what can be eaten in the induction phase - sorry Atkins grapefruit diet, no fruit here:
Seafood
All fowl such as turkey and chicken
All sorts of shellfish
Any meat such as beef or pork
Every type of cooked egg including poached, scrambled and even fried
Any variety of cheeses
Vegetables
Any herbs and spices to make food more exciting
Fats and Oils
Drinks low in carbohydrates such as diet soft drinks
Notice one thing - fruit is not on that list. Later phases of the Atkins diet for fat loss do include limited amounts of fruits such as cantaloupe and even lemon juice, and the pre-maintenance and maintenance phases even specifically allow small quantities of grapefruit. The Atkins grapefruit diet, however, relies on grapefruit to a much greater degree than would be allowed in the original Atkins diet.
There’s a lot of grapefruit in the Atkins grapefruit diet - up to 18 carbs. Even the most generous phases of the Atkins diet, when it comes to grapefruit, recommends limiting intake to below 8 carbs per day. That’s a severe disagreement.
A smart person would immediately peruse the Atkins web site in search of the Atkins Grapefruit diet. When they found no mention of that diet on the site, a red light would go off and an alarm would sound.
Truth about diets review: Don’t forget the following. Any diet that relies too heavily on one food or food group is going to be unhealthy. The Atkins Grapefruit Diet is not associated with the Atkins diet, and may interfere with the results of the Atkins diet in its early phases.
